World Champagne Day

Whoever selected today as World Champagne Day must have had a bit of inside knowledge on what the weather was going to be like today here in the UK. It’s a bright, uplifting day just like a glass of champers, the synergy alone should be reason enough to pop those corks. Not to mention that it’s October. The kids can have their Trick or Treat night next week, we can have our Flutes of Bubbles night tonight.

So which Champagne are you going to open? A couple of good budget Champagnes to go with Friday’s Fish & Chips:

Aldi Veuve Monsigny Brut – £12.99. That is £12.99. Really. £12.99. And it’s fine. And it’s not just me saying that – it is a winner of 3 Silver Medals from Decanter, IWC and IWSC.Aldi champagne

Tesco Finest 1er Cru – this really doesn’t taste like budget champagne but at £19.99 it is well below the average price and a steal. Rich and complex.

For more …..finesse, if you like, my favourites include:les-vins-blanc-de-blancs

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs £55

Gosset Grande Reserve £49.95

Louis Roederer Rosé 2004 £56.95

Had the day been dark, cold, wet and windy we’d have needed to open a bottle to lift our spirits. So, whatever the weather, it’s worth celebrating World Champagne Day today (and tomorrow and the next day……).
