The Latest from Lidl
On March 3rd, stock for Lidl’s Easter wine promotion should be hitting the shelves and I dare say there may be a sweetener for what is in store in the weekend papers. The main feature this time is that more New World wines are included, some of which I was really excited about. Look out in particular for
Australian Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra and Margaret River, both at £6.99
New Zealand Hawkes Bay Syrah at £8.99
South African Chenin Blanc/Viognier/Roussanne at £4.99
South African Grenache/Mourvedre/Tannat at £4.99
From Europe there is a genuinely interesting range of Hungarian wines, the pick of which for me is the highly appetising, dry Tokaji Furmint at £5.99. For the first time there are also some English wines and at reasonable prices – one cannot often buy a decent English sparkling wine for £14.99.
And, if you need something more classic, there are decent wines from Italy and Bordeaux, with my favourite being the Chateau Jean de Gue 2012 from Lalande-De-Pomerol in Bordeaux at £9.99.
