Wine Your Valentine
Now we’re not suggesting that nothing says ‘I love you’ like a ten quid bottle of fizz, but it could get your day off to a very good start if you buy Champagne Louvel Fontaine Martel Brut from Asda at £10, or indeed Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny at £9.99, mix with orange juice and deliver it in bed with a rose between your teeth. Or if that’s too tacky, schmaltzy, naff or you just can’t be bothered to get out of bed, an after work aperitif of either of these perfectly acceptable champagnes mixed with crème de cassis for a Kir Royale might well get your loved one in the perfect mood. Or before bed, add cognac and a teaspoon of sugar. Go easy on the cognac, you don’t want to be falling asleep now, do you?
Or scratch around the back of your store cupboard and see if you have a jar of Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup laying around. You don’t? Goodness! Well, luckily Lakeland, Waitrose, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols sell them, as well as independent delicatessens, at around £9.99 a jar.
Just look what they can do for an inexpensive bottle of Champagne.
So, if you can’t have the wine you love, love the wine you have.
