Wine Brag Blog I

HappyBunny-pinkbkgd I’m hiding this wine brag under cover of a blog. I don’t want to sound boastful about being able to taste these wines,  I know exactly how lucky I am that I can.

This was a tasting of the Moët Hennessy portfolio and to kick things off were Champagnes from Dom Pérignon, Krug, Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Ruinart. I tasted them all. Obviously. Well, you would, wouldn’t you?

Dom Pérignon 04 and the Rosé 03 were wonderful and I heard that Tom Stevenson reckons this is the best Rosé in the world and I suppose if anyone would know he should, but the DP which took my breath away was the Œnothèque 1995 – meaty, savoury; aromas of pumpernickel, flavours of ginger. Just outrageously gorgeous.

The Krug Champagnes, Grande Cuvée, Rosé and Vintage 2000 were all seriously good with both the Grande Cuvée and Rosé being a good level higher than when I last tasted them but the Champagnes that I would have liked to steal away in my handbag were the Ruinarts.

From the classy and complex ‘R’ de Ruinart (£45) to the delicate but serious Blanc de Blancs (£55) and finally to Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2002 (£140) which was just stunning with massive flavour but somehow really understated and subtle. Sheer class in a glass. And my notes say it is only 10.5% abv which, if correct, has just given me the excuse to make this my daily tipple! Indeed, why don’t I drink Ruinart Champagne more often? In terms of quality/taste experience/whole package v. price, Ruinart is really good value and, as my children keep telling me, You Only Live Once.

So, I’m not trying to flaunt the opportunities I have to taste these super yummy wines, honest, I hope you can tell I’m not blasé about it. When a great wine (or in this case a whole heap of great wines) finds its way onto my grateful palate I can enjoy the experience for weeks. And it makes me a very happy bunny.

The Moët Hennessy still wines will feature on Wine Brag Blog II.
