Radio WM Recommendations 1/7/16
Picpoul de Pinot Tesco Finest* 2015 £6.00 12.5%
Refreshing, zingy and sort of lip-smacking which is perhaps not surprising as Picpoul means lip-stinger (apparently). It’s also just a little salty so is oyster-matching magic. Great for sunny day picnics. Not great for keeping for months on end. So drink now in the summer months.
Food: shellfish, fish and light salads
Asda Extra Special Chablis Domaine de la Levée 2014 £11 12.5%
Lean and elegant, Chablis has the ability to lift your spirits, enhance your mood, and make your food taste a whole lot better, too. It’s down to that touch of minerality mystic – the difficult to explain saline, stony character of a wine which makes it special. The producers of Chablis have had a torrid time of it weather-wise in 2016 so be kind to them and by their wines now while you can. You won’t regret it.
Food: fish, creamy chicken or pasta.
Truly Irresistible Bìo Bìo Malbec £6.99 Co-op 2014 14%
On the programme I recommended Argentinian Malbec but actually this is one of my favourite Malbecs and it’s from Chile. Amazing value for the quality – intense, dark, lush fruit with a peppery finish. You will not be disappointed. And look at that – a Gold medal with Decanter Magazine
Food: Beef, spicy sausages.
