Radio WM – a couple of mince pie wines

chateau-roumieuChâteau Roumieu Sauternes 2013, Bordeaux, France 13.5%

Co-op (37.5cl) £12.99

Citrus, apricot, honey, pineapple, butterscotch – as gorgeous on the nose as it is opulent in the mouth. One of life’s affordable luxuries to enjoy any time of the year. Read more on the wonders of Sauternes here

Food match: Surprisingly versatile, try it with scallops, Lemon Meringue Pie or, my personal favourite, Roquefort. Great with mine pies, too.

ttd-olorosoTaste the Difference Medium Dry 12 Year Old Oloroso Sherry 20%

Sainsbury’s (50cl) £8

Forget what you thought you knew about sherry. You don’t have to be anyone’s grandma to enjoy a glass (or two) – sherry is achingly hip. This Oloroso style is all about richness; think molasses and dried fruits. But it’s also tangy with an orange zest kick. Oloroso means scented so don’t forget to take a long sniff before you drink it. And serve at around 12-14°C.

Food match: Hard cheeses, jamón, nuts, dates and….mince pies.
