Radio WM 22/07
This week’s Radio WM feature wines with a Tour de France theme as the cyclists pedal their way up and down the mountains of the Savoie region.
Cono Sur Bicicleta Viognier 2015 Asda £6.00 (Tesco £5.50 until 25th July) 13.5%
Rounded and dry without the searing acidity some people don’t like in wine. It’s nonetheless fresh, vibrant with a concentrated stone fruit character.
Food match: pork with apricots.
Vin de Savoie, Gamay 2014 Lidl £5.99 12%
As the Tour de France riders cycle courageously up the mountain passes of the Savoie, it is only fitting we should drink a local wine in their honour. A lighter style of red, perfect for summer which could even be drunk slightly chilled. Fruity with red cherry flavours, refreshing and easy on the abv.
Food match: ham, pasta, vegetables dishes
Williams Chase Rosé 2015 Loki £14.99 13% (Magnum £26.99, Jeroboam £59.99)
Beautifully packaged and tastes as good it looks. From southern France a scrumptious blend of local grapes, it has flavours of white peach and grapefruit.
Food match: Salad Niçoise, salmon
