Roc St Vincent 2015 Bordeaux Blanc

Sainsbury’s now £6.25 (75p off)

Did you know Sauvignon Blanc comes from Bordeaux? (Or possibly the Loire, the jury’s out). With a long history of growing this grape and more recent research into how to make the wines ever more expressive, there are some lovely Sauvignon Blancs to be had from here. This is citrusy, lemony in particular, with a lovely crisp freshness. Oh, and by the way, today is Sauvignon Blanc Day so you are officially obliged to buy a bottle!

Food match: seafood, lemon sole, creamy pasta dishes

Beyerskloof Pinotage 2014

Sainsbury’s now £6.00 (£1.00 off)

Beyers Truter is one of the world’s best producers of Pinotage – it’s his thing. I’ve always been happy to recommend this great value example of South Africa’s own grape. Robust and rich, the flavours exude blackberry and figgy juiciness. There’s a little bit of smoky oak which only adds to the spicy complexity of the wine. A real bargain.

Food match: Curries, red meats

Palastri Pinot Grigio Blush 2016

Sainsbury’s £5.00

The skin of Pinot Grigio has a pinkish (sounds better than grey) hue so they are able to produce very pale rosé wines from the grape. This is light and dry, gently fresh and crisp with strawberry juiciness.

Food match: Lightly spiced dishes
